Machine Demolition in Toronto
When a building needs to come down and there’s room to work, an excavator is the fastest way to do it. Our machine demolition crews bring it down quickly, keep the mess in one spot, and leave you a clean, level lot.
What Is Machine Demolition?
Also called mechanical demolition. It’s how most full teardowns get done.

Machine demolition uses an excavator to bring a building down in a planned order, while trucks haul the debris away as it drops. A detached house on an average Toronto lot is usually down in a day or two. It’s one of the main demolition services we run in Toronto.
Speed is the obvious benefit. The part people miss is control. A good operator doesn’t just push things over. They pull the building in toward the machine, keep the debris in one spot, and stay clear of the tree you want to keep and the fence you’re not replacing. For tight or shared sites where a machine can’t work safely, our manual demolition crew does it by hand instead.
When to Choose Machine Demolition
If your job looks like one of these, this is the method we’ll recommend.
Full teardowns
The whole building is coming down to the ground. No shared walls, nothing to save, and a lot to clear for the new build.
Room to work
Detached homes, corner lots, open commercial sites. If the machine can reach and swing safely, it’s cheaper and faster than doing it by hand.
Tight deadlines
Your builder is booked and the clock is running. Machine demolition takes days where hand work takes weeks.
Concrete and foundations
Slabs, footings, old block foundations. A crew with sledgehammers can’t move that, but a breaker attachment can.

Machine Demolition Services: Houses, Concrete & Commercial
From a leaning garage to a commercial block, taken down and hauled away.
House Teardowns
Full residential demolition down to grade, permits and disconnects included. Ready for shovels on your new build.
Garages and Outbuildings
Leaning garages, old sheds, carports. Small jobs we can usually schedule within days and finish in one.
Commercial Buildings
Plazas, shops, and warehouses. Bigger machines and tighter safety plans, with the same planned drop and clean load-out.
Concrete and Foundations
We break out slabs, footings, and old foundations and haul the rubble to recycling. Clean fill stays on site if you want it.
Pool Removal
In-ground pools broken up, backfilled, and packed down properly, so the yard doesn’t sink a couple of springs from now.
Load-Out and Grading
Debris is sorted and trucked out as the teardown goes. Then the lot gets rough-graded and left level and clean.

Our Machine Demolition Process
The demolition is quick. It’s everything around it that needs managing.
Step 1
Site Review and Quote
We measure, check access, look for hazards, and give you one number with the haul-away already in it.
Step 2
Permits and Disconnects
The City wants a demolition permit, and gas, hydro and water need to be cut and capped. We run that paperwork.
Step 3
The Teardown
Any asbestos comes out first, then the machine brings the building down in a set order while we keep the dust down with water.
Step 4
Clear and Grade
Foundations out, debris gone, lot graded. Your builder can start the morning after we leave.

Machine Demolition FAQs
How long does it take to tear down a house?
Getting the permits usually takes longer than the demolition itself. Once the permits are in and the utilities are cut off, most detached houses are down in a day or two. The full job, including the foundation and hauling it away, is usually finished within a week.
What’s the difference between machine and manual demolition?
Machine demolition is faster and cheaper where there’s room: full teardowns on open lots. Manual demolition is for tight, shared or delicate sites. Plenty of jobs mix both, with a hand strip-out inside before the machine finishes the shell. Our quote tells you which we’d use and why.
Do you remove the foundation too?
Yes. We break up and remove foundations, slabs and footings, then fill or grade the hole depending on what your build needs next. If you want clean fill left on site, say so and we’ll plan for it.
Will the machines damage my driveway or the road?
We plan where the machine sits and tracks before it arrives, lay down protection where it matters, and leave the street the way we found it. The City checks, and so do we.
Do I need a permit to demolish a building in Toronto?
Yes, for almost any full teardown in Toronto and the GTA. We handle the application and the utility sign-offs it depends on. Budget a few weeks for the City’s side of the process.
